Prime Video is bringing Viking history back to the screen with Bloodaxe, an epic historical drama from Michael Hirst, the creator of Vikings. The official teaser introduces a brutal world of ambition, betrayal, and bloody battles as rival rulers fight for control of Norway. The series follows Erik Bloodaxe, played by Xavier Molyneux, one of the most famous Norse warriors in history. Alongside him is his formidable wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, portrayed by Jessica Madsen, known for her role in Bridgerton. Together, they pursue the Norwegian throne while facing dangerous enemies, shifting alliances, and political conflicts that threaten to tear the kingdom apart. The story also features Haakon the Good, played by Levi Miller, and Egil Skallagrimsson, portrayed by Karlis Arnolds Avots. With wars involving Scandinavian rulers and powerful English leaders, the series promises a sweeping historical adventure filled with action and complex rivalries. Michael Hirst co-created the show with his son Horatio Hirst, bringing their experience in historical storytelling to a new Norse saga. The first season consists of eight episodes, all scheduled to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on January 20, 2027. Even before its debut, Bloodaxe has been renewed for a second season, demonstrating Amazon's confidence in the series.
