Morocco’s Grand Vision: The Future of the World’s Largest Football Stadium

With a capacity of 115,000 seats, the Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, Morocco, is expected to become the biggest football stadium in the world, right in time for the African country to share hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Along with Portugal and Spain, Morocco will host the competition; the final will take place in Casablanca. On the 100-hectare site, preparations for the stadium's construction started in October 2023.

Currently holding the record for the biggest football stadium is North Korea's national football team's home, Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang, which can accommodate 114,000 spectators.

Groups of gardens with smaller sports fields and complexes surround the main stadium. Located 38 kilometers north of Casablanca, this "oasis of greenery" incorporates botanical gardens to create a new degree of interaction between the stadium and the surrounding environment.

Inspired by the customary Moroccan social event known as a “moussem,” which brings Moroccan communities together for cultural interactions, the roof's structure is fashioned to resemble an opulent tent amidst the Casablanca woodland.
