Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) – Classic Gothic Novel of Creation & Revenge

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus — originally a novel by Mary Shelley (1818) — tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but driven scientist who becomes obsessed with uncovering the secret of life.

He assembles a humanoid creature from dead body parts and animates it, but is horrified by the results and abandons his creation.

The creature, intelligent and sensitive, experiences rejection, loneliness, and pain, and ultimately seeks vengeance on Victor by harming those he loves — including his family and fiancée.

Victor pursues the creature across icy wilderness toward the North Pole, driven by guilt, grief, and a desire for retribution.

In the end, Victor dies from exhaustion, and the creature, mourning its creator, vows to end its own life, disappearing into the Arctic.
