Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is the upcoming sequel to Hideo Kojima's 2019 game Death Stranding. Officially revealed at The Game Awards 2022, this PlayStation 5 exclusive continues the story of Sam Porter Bridges (played by Norman Reedus) in a new chapter that promises deeper philosophical themes, expanded gameplay mechanics, and an even stranger world.
This time, Sam embarks on a journey across a shattered world to "connect the disconnected" once more—but the rules of life and death seem to be shifting. With returning characters like Fragile (Léa Seydoux) and new additions like Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna, Kojima Productions blends emotional storytelling with mysterious sci-fi and social commentary. The title’s subtitle "On the Beach" references a recurring theme in the franchise related to the afterlife.
The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 (a shift from the Decima Engine), and it’s expected to release in 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
